Super Mambanana April 1st 2004.
Story from the Liverpool Echo online.
ONE of Liverpool's famous landmarks had a surprise addition this morning for April Fool's day. A baby Superlambanana went on display next to the much-loved original.
The miniature, measuring three feet high and 3ft 3ins long, was left there by its creator, who identified himself only as Billy, from Crosby. "I thought that the original looked lonely and needed a friend so I made a baby one. If I've made just one person laugh today then I'm happy. April Fool's day is hardly celebrated any more so I thought I'd support the British tradition."
But there was another message behind the small statue - it is also a protest against university tuition fees. He added: "My daughter's just finished her degree at Durham University and is going to Bath to do her Masters, it's not right that after all that she's going to be up to her ears in debt."
